Comedian Eddie Murphy has won the best supporting film actor Golden Globe award for Dreamgirls.
He triumphed over a host of other big names nominated in the category such as Ben Affleck (Hollywoodland), Brad Pitt (Babel), and Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg (The Departed).
The Closer’s Kyra Sedgwick won the best actress award in the television drama at the Golden Globes in Hollywood.
She headed off competition from Patricia Arquette (Medium), Edie Falco (Sopranos), Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and Ellen Pompeo (Grey's Anatomy).
In the best supporting television actor category, Jeremy Irons won the award for his role in Elizabeth I.
Best supporting actress went to Emily Blunt for her work in Gideon's Daughter.
